It doesn't look like it will, says Terence. It's getting smaller.

Captain Baudin may chance to look up as he's swimming, says Denis. 

And see his hat floating above him, says Gaius.

And retrieve it, says Denis.

Then what? asks Terence.

Put it on, says Denis.

Then what? asks Terence.

 He imagines the worst:

Captain Baudin swims back to the rocks with his sea captain's hat on. How did my hat get into the water? asks Captain Baudin. Terence dropped it, says Denis. I thought so. Will someone else take it, NOT Terence, says Captain Baudin. So Gaius takes it. Right, says Captain Baudin. Back to work. I've now lost contact with Ageless. What a BOTHER!

Luckily none of this happens.

Roo-kai is approaching.

Floof! He lands on a rock beside Terence.

I didn't see you at the campground last night, says Roo-kai.

We stayed the night in the lighthouse, says Gaius. With Captain Baudin. He and Ageless are diving in these waters, while we wait on the shore.

Silly question, says Roo-kai, but was Captain Baudin wearing a sea captain's hat when he entered the water?

No! says Terence. He left it with me to look after. And....

Say no more, says Roo-kai. I know where it is. I passed it on my way here.

Yay! says Terence. Go and get it.

I would be more inclined to go and get it for a polite person, says Roo-kai.

Well said, says Gaius.

 

Roo-kai flies off to retrieve the lost hat and return it to Gaius.

He flies to the spot where the hat is.

He lands on the water beside it.

Below, in the clear waters, he sees shoals of giant cuttlefish undulating and glinting. 

Aware of only themselves.

There goes a weird one. Undulating, glinting, transparent, with words on one side:
