Mercy Of The Elements

My egg box is ruined, says Terence.

You could probably resurrect it, says Roo-kai. Try squeezing the sides.

Okay, says Terence.

Before you do that, says Roo-kai, you'd better put all Gaius's stuff back.

Can you do it? asks Terence.

I told you I'm not touching anything, says Roo-kai.

But it would be a good deed, says Terence.

For you, says Roo-kai. Gaius wouldn't notice the difference.

He would if he knew I found the egg box, says Terence. Go and tell him.

No, says Roo-kai. You go and tell him.

Okay, says Terence. You stay here and mind all his stuff.

Okay, says Roo-kai.

Terence heads across to where Denis and Gaius are contemplating the croissant packet with the cuttlefish eggs inside.

Where shall we put them? asks Denis.

Gaius has been asking himself the same question.

Perhaps we should wait for Ageless and Captain Baudin to come back, says Gaius. They may have a suggestion.

Guess what! says Terence.

You found it! says Gaius. Well done.

But it's ruined, says Terence.

In what way? asks Gaius.

It's flat, says Terence. So there's no room inside.

Did you try squeezing the sides? asks Denis.

Not yet, says Terence. Roo-kai said I should put all Gaius's things back in his backpack so I asked him to but he wouldn't.

Curses! says Gaius. That means all my things are strewn over the rocks at the mercy of the elements.

He stands up and heads towards his backpack, and Roo-kai.

Give me the egg box, says Denis.

I left it back there with Roo-kai, says Terence.

Well, go and get it, says Denis.

Terence goes back to get it.

Gaius is stuffing underwear and outerwear into his backpack.

Roo-kai is watching.

The egg box lies nearby on a rock, looking flat.

Terence picks up the egg box and takes it back to Denis.

This looks fixable, says Denis. Shall I squeeze it?

Yes, says Terence.

Denis squeezes the sides of the egg box until it is again three dimensional.

Yay! says Terence. Now I can put the eggs in. Where are they?

Here, says Denis. But I think you should wait...

Terence does not want to wait. He has waited already.

He opens the hinged door of his egg box.

He takes a handful of cuttlefish eggs from the croissant packet and drops them inside.

He closes the hinged door.

They'll dry out without water, says Denis.

So let's pour some in, says Terence.

The box is made of cardboard, says Denis. It'll go soggy, and the cuttlefish eggs aren't due to hatch till November.

But Terence is used to things turning out all right.

So he is not worried.
